چکیده

From a field experiment to estimate consumer preferences for reduced-nicotine cigarettes, our results suggest younger adult smokers who want to quit smoking are most likely to purchase low-nicotine cigarettes. Hard core smokers, however, revealed no demand for these cigarettes. * Corresponding author. Address: RTI International, 3040 Cornwallis Rd., Research Triangle Park, NC 27709. Relationship between cigarette yields, puffing patterns, and smoke intake: evidence for tar compensation?

The relationship between cigarette yields (of nicotine, tar, and carbon monoxide), puffing patterns, and smoke intake was studied by determining puffing patterns and measuring blood concentrations of nicotine and carboxy-haemoglobin (COHb) in a sample of 55 smokers smoking their usual brand of cigarette. Regression analyses showed that the total volume of smoke puffed from a cigarette was a mor...

Nicotine yield from machine-smoked cigarettes and nicotine intakes in smokers: evidence from a representative population survey.

BACKGROUND The relevance of nicotine yields from machine-smoked cigarettes for quantifying smokers' nicotine intakes and exposure to cigarette toxins has been called into question. However, most studies of the relationship between nicotine yield and nicotine intake have been on relatively small and unrepresentative samples and have included few smokers of "ultra-low" brands (i.e., those yieldin...

Self-titration by cigarette smokers.

An 11-week crossover study was carried out in which 12 subjects smoked high-nicotine (1.84 mg standard yield) and low-nicotine (0.6 mg) cigarettes after an initial period of smoking their usual brands with a medium-nicotine yield (mean 1.4 mg). Plasma and urine nicotine concentrations, carboxyhaemoglobin (COHb) concentration, puffing behaviour, 24-hour cigarette consumption, and butt nicotine c...

Respiratory effects of lowering tar and nicotine levels of cigarettes smoked by young male middle tar smokers. I. Design of a randomised controlled trial.

STUDY OBJECTIVE The aim was to investigate the effect on respiratory health of male middle tar smokers changing the tar and nicotine levels of the cigarettes they smoke for a six month period. DESIGN This was a randomised controlled trial. Middle tar smokers were randomly allocated to smoke one of three different types of cigarette (low tar, middle nicotine; middle tar, middle nicotine; and l...

Smoking cigarettes of low nicotine yield does not reduce nicotine intake as expected: a study of nicotine dependency in Japanese males

BACKGROUND Many Japanese believe that low-yield cigarettes are less hazardous than regular cigarettes, and many smokers consume low-yield cigarettes to reduce their risks from smoking. We evaluate the association between actual nicotine intake and brand nicotine yield, and the influence of nicotine dependence on this association. METHODS The study subjects included 458 Japanese male smokers, ...
